Tip of the Month (April)

Monthly Tip from Dr. Pond!

It is important to continue to add beneficial bacteria throughout the year, even during the colder months. By adding beneficial bacteria you are ensuring that the healthy bacteria continues to colonize and keeps the ecosystem balanced.

During the colder months it is suggested that to add a strain of bacteria that is used for cold water, or specifically made for fall amd winter maintenance. This is because the heterotrophic bacteria contained within the cold water formula thrive in lower temperatures. The  formula for spring and summer maintenance contains bacteria that functions and thrives in warmer temperatures.

When first starting up your pond again in the beginning of spring, be sure to add bacteria 3 times a week for the frist 3 weeks!!  Then just once weekly after the initial 3 weeks.
