Time to Think About Spring?

Spring is certainly and simply the most exciting time of year. As things slowly awaken from their winter hibernation, there are some things that you can do to make sure your water feature gets off to a good start this spring. First of all have Action Water Gardens do a clean out!!!! Your water feature just took the brutal beating of winter and deserves to be pamped! Action’s quick and efficient clean out process will get your pond or water feature sparkly and happy for this upcoming summer season. The best time to perform a pond clean-out is spring, before your water garden completely awakens from its winter dormancy - the water should ideally be around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Doing a clean out at the proper time in the season is essential for proper bacteria colonization. Does your water feature need a full clean-out this season? Most likely yes but there are a couple of things that you can look for to help you decide. First, if there is a layer of "crud" at the bottom of the pond and the water is dark in color, it would be a good idea to do a full clean-out. So don’t hesitate to fill out a clean out form right now and fax it or mail it on over.   Start feeding your fish again when the water temperature reaches a constant 50 degrees. Feed them cold weather food until the water temperature reaches 60 degrees at which point you can move to your full-season feeding program. If you do not have any or are low on food we have an abundant supply of scrumptious fish food and flakes here at the shop on Hartford turnpike. Add new plants as needed as the weather becomes appropriate for each plant. Add floaters such as water hyacinth and water lettuce (late spring after danger of frost has passed). Don't let too much time pass before summer comes, fill out the clean out form, sign it, and send it over. Make sure you have a thermometer and take care of your fish coming out of hibernation. Any other questions or concerns about your waterfeatures please do not hesitate to call and ask.
